Anxiety

Young people can often feel overwhelmed with worry or fears of negative things happening around them and in the future. These fears are irrational but still provoke strong emotional reactions for individuals. Younger clients can often feel confused if they haven’t had much exposure to information about anxiety and greatly benefit from our evidence based treatment approaches to help them better understand their worries and fears and develop resilience.

Mood problems

Significant changes in our moods can often occur in the context of situational stressors including familial conflict, friendship problems, negative experiences. Often young people can experience periods of depression where they have difficulty experience joy and participating in their normal activities. Therapy can be very helpful in addressing the activities that young people engage in as well as looking at changing the unhelpful ways of thinking.

Peer & relationship problems

Given the stage of life adolescents are going through, their social world is extremely significant to them. This can lead to them having both positive and negative experiences as they explore their sense of self within their social world leading to different kinds of relationships and potential conflicts. The tensions and conflicts can be really challenging for a young person to navigate through. The therapy space provides a safe and non-judgemental space to help the young person navigate their way through such challenges and develop resilience and a solid sense of self.

Difficulties with body image & eating

Given the current social platforms that young people have to participate in and the varying standards that are set for them, we see lots of young people struggling developing and maintaining a positive body image.

Trauma

Most young people will have been exposed to at least one traumatic event in their lives, while some will experience prolonged exposure to trauma. When a young person opens up about trauma, the way that others around them respond can have a significant effect on the young person’s ability to understand and cope with what has happened. We support young people and their families to overcome the effects of trauma.
